This study characterized two hairy root lines (SaTRN12.2 and SaTRN7.1) of Sphaeralcea angustifolia, finding that they produce anti-inflammatory compounds including scopoletin, sphaeralcic acid, and two newly described isomers (iso-sphaeralcic acid and 8-methyl-iso-sphaeralcic acid). The dichloromethane-methanol extract from the SaTRN7.1 line showed 92.11% protection against ethanol-induced gastric ulcers in mice, outperforming omeprazole. These findings support the traditional use of S. angustifolia for gastrointestinal illness and demonstrate hairy root cultures as a stable biotechnological source of bioactive compounds.
