This study analyzed heavy metal concentrations (methylmercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic) in 31 tuna samples from Japanese restaurants in the Republic of Korea. While mean levels of all metals were within safe limits for the general population, 9.7% of samples exceeded the maximum residue level for methylmercury, and the %PTWI for methylmercury varied significantly by age and sex, with young adult men at highest risk. The findings indicate that improved monitoring and consumer awareness programs for methylmercury in tuna are needed.
