This study noninvasively tracked ovarian activity in a single captive female white cockatoo by measuring urofecal estradiol-17β (E2) and progesterone (P4) over ~4 years. E2 increases preceded follicle growth, and P4 peaks occurred just before egg laying, confirming that urofecal hormone monitoring accurately reflects ovarian endocrinology. Body weight changes correlated with E2 dynamics, and molting decreased during periods of high ovarian activity, indicating an antagonistic relationship between reproduction and molt.
