This study found that lumacaftor/ivacaftor significantly improved liver fibrosis markers (GGT, APRI, GPR) in children with cystic fibrosis who had pre-existing liver involvement, suggesting it may be the first drug to reverse CF-associated liver fibrosis. In contrast, elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor did not show similar improvements in liver biomarkers within the study timeframe. These findings highlight a potential new benefit of lumacaftor/ivacaftor for liver health in CF, though larger studies with imaging are needed.
