This study tested whether DNA methylation differences (DMRs) previously identified in bovine blastocysts from heifers fed a low-sulfur/cobalt diet persist into adulthood. Analysis of blood and sperm from six adult bulls showed that all four DMRs examined (KDM2A, KDM5A, KMT2D, DOT1L) were hypermethylated in both groups, with no significant differences between dietary groups. These findings indicate that embryonic DMRs are reprogrammed during later development and cannot be assumed to persist into adult tissues, highlighting the need for adult validation in epigenetic inheritance studies.
