This study analyzed transcriptomic data from HPV18-positive and HPV-negative esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) samples and found that HPV18 E6E7 oncogenes inhibit multiple cell death pathways, including apoptosis, autophagy, and pyroptosis. The HPV18 E6E7 gene increased resistance to cisplatin-induced apoptosis, inhibited autophagosome-lysosome fusion, and suppressed α-ketoglutarate-induced pyroptosis in ESCC cells. These findings suggest that HPV-mediated inhibition of cell death pathways may be a key mechanism in ESCC carcinogenesis and progression.
