This study found that in patients with intermediate age-related macular degeneration (AMD), vitreous humor levels of fatty amides (e.g., anandamide, docosanamide) and acyl carnitines (e.g., acetyl L-carnitine) were significantly increased, while energy metabolism-related metabolites like succinic acid and nicotinamide were decreased. These findings suggest that altered lipid and energy metabolism in the eye may be involved in the pathogenesis of intermediate AMD, offering potential targets for early diagnosis and intervention.
