This systematic review of studies from 1977–2022 found that only three studies met inclusion criteria for genetic associations with antipsychotic-induced akathisia (AIA). The C allele of rs1800498 and A allele of rs1800497 (TaqIA) in the DRD2 gene, and the TT genotype of rs13212041 in the HTR1B gene were significantly associated with AIA risk. These findings highlight the need for larger, multicenter studies across diverse populations to establish clinically useful genetic biomarkers for personalized prevention of AIA in schizophrenia patients.
