This study compared mate preferences between two ecotypes of Threespine Stickleback—a larger 'common' ecotype where males provide parental care and a smaller 'white' ecotype where males do not. Contrary to predictions, both ecotypes' males preferred larger females, and common males did not show stronger selectivity despite their parental investment. The findings suggest that body size, rather than paternal care, is the primary driver of male mate choice in this system, with implications for understanding how mating systems and sexual selection interact.
