This scoping review of five studies found that DNA methylation (DNAm) accelerated age, measured by epigenetic clocks, has a statistically significant associative relationship with breast cancer risk. However, the included studies lacked ancestrally diverse populations and did not consider social factors or epidemiological risk factors that influence methylation patterns. The authors conclude that epigenetic clocks are a promising tool for breast cancer risk surveillance but more research is needed in diverse populations and across critical life stages like the menopausal transition.
