This study found that patients with gastric cancer have significantly higher percentages of immune cells (T cells, B cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells) expressing Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) compared to healthy controls, with levels increasing as the cancer advances. The concentration of soluble TLR2 in serum was four times higher in gastric cancer patients than in controls. These findings suggest TLR2 expression on peripheral blood immune cells could serve as a diagnostic biomarker for detecting advanced gastric cancer and assessing disease progression.
