This retrospective study of 102 adults with asymmetrical hearing loss (AHL) fitted with a hearing aid in the worse ear only found a success rate of 43.1% and usage rate of 67.6%, substantially higher than prior South Korean national data. Key predictors of successful hearing aid use included younger age, better 1 kHz hearing threshold in the better ear (for unilateral hearing loss), and sudden hearing loss as the etiology. These findings support empirical fitting of the worse ear in AHL and identify audiometric and non-audiometric factors that may guide clinical decision-making when only one hearing aid is available.
