This prospective cohort study of 6,683 Dutch children found that higher parental socioeconomic status (SES) was associated with lower paediatric metabolic syndrome (MetS) scores, with the strongest effect seen for parental education. Parental health literacy partially mediated these relationships, accounting for 6.7% (education), 11.8% (income), and 8.3% (occupation) of the total effect. The findings suggest that improving parental health literacy may modestly reduce socioeconomic inequalities in paediatric MetS, though the overall effects were small.
