This study from the Leiden CCISS cohort shows that over the past decade, systemic sclerosis (SSc) patients are being referred earlier in their disease course, with shorter symptom duration at cohort entry and fewer patients presenting with digital ulcers and clinically meaningful interstitial lung disease. While symptom duration at presentation is longer in females, mortality is consistently higher in males (8-year survival 59% vs 89%), highlighting the need for sex-specific management. The findings suggest improved early recognition of SSc may be opening a window of opportunity for earlier intervention.
