This systematic review and meta-ethnography of 23 qualitative studies found that HPV-positive oropharyngeal cancer patients face significant psychosocial challenges after (chemo)radiotherapy, including gaps in professional support, disrupted self-identity, and unrealistic recovery expectations. Despite a favorable prognosis (75-80% 5-year survival), patients experience an unexpectedly difficult recovery with poor psychosocial well-being that may threaten successful outcomes. The findings highlight the need for tailored, personalized support including clear recovery guidance, HPV-specific information, peer support, and enhanced psychological interventions to facilitate positive adjustment.
