This study demonstrates significant inter-population differences in acetabular aging rates between European North Americans and Portuguese individuals, with North Americans aging faster, particularly females. Using population-specific reference samples improves age-at-death estimation accuracy, but the SanMillán-Rissech acetabular method consistently outperforms pubic symphysis and auricular surface methods regardless of reference sample origin. These findings highlight the need to understand skeletal aging processes across populations to minimize bias in forensic and bioarchaeological age estimation.
