This qualitative study explored the support needs of youth (ages 18–25) in Khayelitsha, South Africa, who unexpectedly lost a family member to HIV/AIDS. Through interviews with 11 female participants, the study found that youths lacked access to therapeutic sessions, counselling, and social worker support, leaving them unable to manage their grief effectively. The findings highlight an urgent need for structured emotional support, financial assistance, and professional counselling services for bereaved youth in this setting.
