Chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) during pregnancy in rats increased plasma corticosterone and induced depression-like behaviors. Stress altered gut microbiota composition, notably reducing Ruminococcaceae (23.45% vs 32.67%) and increasing Prevotellaceae (10.45% vs 0.03%), and significantly shifted fecal metabolite profiles across 11 metabolic pathways. These findings suggest maternal gut dysbiosis and metabolite changes may contribute to stress-induced negative emotions during pregnancy and represent potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets.
