This scoping review of 17 studies (N=1240) found limited evidence that omega-3 supplements reduce depression or anxiety symptoms in young people aged 14–24, with most randomized controlled trials showing null effects. In contrast, 83% of grey literature sources aimed at the general public recommended omega-3 for these conditions, revealing a significant mismatch between scientific evidence and publicly available information. Clinicians and policymakers should be cautious about recommending omega-3 supplements for youth mental health until higher-quality, longer-duration trials are conducted.
