This study validates that skeletal muscle mass measurements (SMI) from low-dose CT scans of [18F]-FDG PET-CT are comparable to those from diagnostic neck CT scans in head and neck cancer patients. Agreement between modalities was excellent, with no significant bias and almost perfect concordance in diagnosing sarcopenia. These findings support using low-dose CT for sarcopenia assessment when diagnostic CT is unavailable, enabling broader identification of patients at risk for adverse outcomes.
