This systematic review of 16 randomized trials (7372 participants) found mixed evidence for the effectiveness of social media interventions in improving physical activity and reducing weight among healthy adults. While some studies showed short-term benefits, long-term effectiveness was not demonstrated, and engagement with interventions declined over time. The relationship between participant engagement and behavior change remains unclear, highlighting the need for standardized engagement metrics and further robust research.
