This cross-sectional study of 442 Ecuadorian nutritionists found that 38.6% were unemployed at the time of the survey and 76% had experienced unemployment at some point in their careers, with difficulty finding jobs cited as the main reason. Graduates from private universities had higher employment rates (68.28%) and were more likely to work as nutritionists (58.87%) compared to public university graduates (56.86% employed, 44.69% working in the field). The findings highlight a critical mismatch between the number of graduating nutrition professionals and available positions in Ecuador's health system, particularly in community and public health nutrition where fewer than 4% of nutritionists work.
