This study found that VISTA, an immune checkpoint protein, is highly expressed in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and is associated with worse survival when expressed on tumor cells. Recombinant VISTA suppressed proinflammatory cytokine production (TNFα and IFNγ) by T cells, while VISTA blockade reduced tumor weight in an orthotopic mouse model. These findings suggest VISTA is a promising immunotherapeutic target for PDAC, a cancer that has been largely refractory to current immunotherapies.
