This study identifies CES1D as the key enzyme that breaks down fat stored in intestinal cells after a meal, regulated by the MFGE8-integrin pathway. The authors show that dietary fat absorption through CD36 stabilizes the transcription factor HNF4γ, which then increases CES1D expression to mobilize stored fat for chylomicron production. These findings reveal a regulatory network that controls postprandial blood lipid levels and could be targeted to reduce cardiovascular disease risk in obesity and diabetes.
