This study isolated four endophytic microbes (two fungi and two bacteria) from finger millet that can solubilize insoluble zinc compounds and promote plant growth. Inoculation with these endophytes significantly increased grain zinc content by up to 18.8%, improved NPK uptake, and enhanced plant height and biomass across three finger millet varieties. These findings suggest that zinc-solubilizing endophytes could serve as a sustainable biofortification strategy to address zinc deficiency in regions where chemical zinc fertilizers are not cost-effective.
