This narrative review examines the utility of existing cardiovascular risk scores in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), finding that traditional scores like Framingham underestimate CV risk in this population. NAFLD affects 32.4% of the global population and is associated with a 64% higher likelihood of fatal or nonfatal cardiovascular events, with risk increasing in the presence of liver fibrosis. The authors conclude that no validated NAFLD-specific CVD risk score exists and call for new inclusive risk scores that incorporate liver fibrosis severity and metabolic factors.
