This study analyzed the early growth patterns of 260 female Ashidan yaks, a new hornless breed developed in China, and found that their growth is highly seasonal—fast in warm seasons and slow or stagnant in cold seasons. Among five nonlinear models tested, the Richards model best fit the body weight data, with the lowest AIC (4543.98) and BIC (4563.19) values and an estimated mature body weight of 155.642 kg. These findings provide a foundation for genetic improvement and breeding programs for Ashidan yak, and highlight the need for supplemental feeding during cold seasons.
