This study found that children with celiac disease have significantly higher blood levels of intestinal fatty acid binding protein (I-FABP) at diagnosis compared to non-celiac children, and these levels drop substantially after six months on a gluten-free diet. I-FABP levels also correlated with the degree of serological marker elevation, suggesting it may be a useful noninvasive marker for both diagnosis and monitoring of celiac disease. The findings support the potential clinical use of I-FABP as a complementary tool to standard serology in pediatric celiac disease management.
