This study successfully induced choroidal neovascularization (CNV) in pigmented rabbits using laser photocoagulation with a 100% success rate, and the CNV remained stable for up to 4 months. Multimodal imaging combining photoacoustic microscopy (PAM), optical coherence tomography (OCT), and fluorescein angiography (FA) allowed precise visualization and differentiation of CNV from surrounding tissues. This rabbit model provides a clinically relevant platform for longitudinal studies of CNV pathogenesis and potential treatments for neovascular age-related macular degeneration.
