This study compared three selenium sources (sodium selenite, selenium yeast, and hydroxy-selenomethionine) fed at 0.3 mg/kg to nursery pigs. Pigs fed hydroxy-selenomethionine had significantly higher serum, liver, and muscle selenium concentrations, but no consistent differences in growth performance or antioxidant status were observed. The findings indicate that all three sources provide adequate selenium for nursery pigs under commercial conditions, though organic sources may offer greater tissue selenium reserves.
