Among beneficiaries of the World Food Programme's Enhanced Nutrition and Value Chain (ENVAC) project in northern Ghana, exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) prevalence was 74.6%, substantially higher than recent national estimates of 43–52%. Higher maternal education and access to pipe-borne water were significantly associated with EBF practice. The findings suggest that social behavior change communication strategies combined with addressing maternal education and household water access may improve EBF rates in impoverished communities.
