This study found that serum amyloid A 4 (SAA4) levels in aqueous humor are significantly elevated in both neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) and polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) compared to controls, with strong discriminatory power (AUC 0.92 for nAMD, 0.95 for PCV). SAA4 may serve as a common biomarker linking inflammation and lipid abnormalities in these choroidal vasculopathies. The findings suggest that targeting SAA4 could aid diagnosis and guide future therapeutic strategies.
