This preclinical study used a mouse model of DSS-induced colitis to investigate the effects of whole blackcurrant powder. The main finding was that blackcurrant administration alleviated clinical symptoms, histological damage, and pro-inflammatory cytokine levels, while modulating gut microbiota and inhibiting the NF-κB signaling pathway. The most important limitation is that this is an animal study, and the findings may not directly translate to human ulcerative colitis.
