This cross-sectional qualitative study used the pile sort technique and focus groups with 62 pregnant and breastfeeding women in Catalonia and Andalusia, Spain, to explore social representations of food trust and distrust. Women generally trusted fresh fruits and vegetables but were highly distrustful of processed and pre-prepared foods, while ambivalence about fish and meat hinged on origin and production method; however, the exploratory design and geographically limited sample restrict generalizability.
