Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age, yet it remains underdiagnosed partly due to lack of disease knowledge. This study aimed to gauge PCOS awareness among males and females in central Jordan. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted using a validated questionnaire with demographic and knowledge domains. Stratified random sampling recruited adults aged 18 and over from Jordan's central region via an online survey. However, knowledge of the association between PCOS and comorbidities (e.g., heart disease: 11%; hypertension: 19.1%) and the genetic component of PCOS was subpar. Women scored significantly higher than men (57.5 ± 6.06 vs. 54.1 ± 6.71, p = 0.019). Higher education and medical field education were associated with better knowledge. Older, employed, and higher-income groups showed significantly better knowledge than younger, unemployed, self-employed, and lower-income groups. Housewives demonstrated the lowest knowledge across occupations. A notable misconception was that 60.8% of participants believed ovarian follicles on ultrasound are mandatory for PCOS diagnosis.
