This retrospective cohort study found that while special education enrollment spiked in Flint after the water crisis, the incidence of elevated blood lead in Flint children was consistently lower than in the control city of Detroit, suggesting a negative psychological effect (nocebo effect) rather than lead exposure as the primary cause.
