In a prospective cohort of 119 patients undergoing esophagectomy at two high-volume centers, an ERAS-driven upper gastrointestinal contrast study on postoperative day 2–3 identified delayed gastric conduit emptying in 7.1% of patients, which was associated with significantly longer nasogastric tube duration and hospital stay.
