In male Wistar rats, erythropoietin (EPO) dose-dependently attenuated thioacetamide-induced liver fibrosis, as evidenced by reduced fibrosis, improved liver enzymes, and restored antioxidant levels. EPO's hepatoprotective effects were associated with upregulation of the PI3K/Akt survival pathway and downregulation of the TLR4 proinflammatory axis.
