This study used bioinformatic analysis of public transcriptomic data to identify shared molecular pathways between COVID-19, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease in human frontal cortex tissue. It found 52 common differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and highlighted the synaptic vesicle cycle as a key shared pathway, suggesting SARS-CoV-2 infection may cause synaptic dysfunction contributing to neurodegeneration. The main limitation is that the findings are computational and based on small, heterogeneous public datasets, requiring experimental validation.
