This study used 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing to compare the gut microbiota of two wild rodent species (Acomys cahirinus and Mus musculus) across three bioclimatic zones in Jordan's Great Rift Valley. Bioclimatic zone significantly shaped gut microbiota composition while host phylogeny did not, with microbial alpha diversity highest in Mediterranean and lowest in Sudanian zones.
