This in vitro study used a human liver cell line to compare the effects of native LDL (nLDL) and oxidized LDL (oxLDL) on lipid metabolism and oxidative stress. The main finding was that oxLDL, but not nLDL, induced the formation of lipid droplets enriched with cholesteryl ester hydroperoxides (CE-OOH) and increased the oxidative stress marker PC-OOH/PC, suggesting a role in NAFLD/NASH pathogenesis. A key limitation is that the findings are from a simple cell experiment and do not directly model human disease progression.
