This cross-sectional study weighed plate waste from home-packed lunches in a class of 3rd graders over 5 days to assess actual nutrient intake. The main finding was that children consumed 67.3% of the solid food packed, with macronutrient ratios remaining stable, but intake was low in fiber and high in calories from sugar-sweetened beverages. A key limitation is the small, specific sample (118 meals from one school), limiting generalizability.
