This in vitro study used human retinal pigment epithelium cells to investigate the effects of particulate matter exposure. The central result was that particulate matter exposure induced inflammation by activating the MAPK/NFκB pathway and increased endoplasmic reticulum stress and hypoxic adaptation responses.
