A cross-sectional study assessed gender bias in endoscopic skill evaluation among 76 Saudi gastroenterology consultants. Participants viewed the same video of a polypectomy and were randomized to evaluate it as performed by either a hypothetical male or female fellow, using the Direct Observation of Polypectomy skills (DOPyS) tool. The overall median score was 3. Evaluators were more likely to give a higher score of 4 to the male fellow (7 evaluators) than the female fellow (3 evaluators), a difference that was not statistically significant (P=0.29). The study suggests a possible numerical trend of bias, limited by a small sample size, indicating a need for further research on gender bias in gastroenterology training assessment.
