This study aimed to identify dietary patterns and their association with hypertriglyceridemia prevalence in a large, nationally representative sample of Korean adults. Factor analysis was applied to dietary intake data from the KNHANES 2013–2018 to derive three dietary patterns: “oils and fats & seasoning,” “soybean paste and vegetable,” and “fruit and whole-grain.” Logistic regression models, progressively adjusted for demographic, lifestyle, and metabolic confounders, were used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) across pattern score quartiles. Among men, the “fruit and whole-grain” pattern was significantly inversely associated with hypertriglyceridemia in all three models (fully-adjusted OR for Q4 vs Q1: 0.61, 95% CI: 0.45–0.82; p for trend <.0001). Among women, the association was significant only in the minimally adjusted model (OR: 0.68, 95% CI: 0.52–0.90) and reached borderline significance after full adjustment (OR: 0.78, 95% CI: 0.58–1.07; p for trend = .062). No significant associations were found for the other two dietary patterns in either sex. These findings suggest that a diet rich in fruit and whole grains may be associated with lower hypertriglyceridemia prevalence in middle and older-aged Korean adults, but prospective studies are needed to confirm a causal relationship.
