This longitudinal metagenomic study analyzed viral communities from three skin sites in 60 participants over five time points spanning six months. The skin bacteriophage population was predominantly composed of Caudovirales phages carrying auxiliary metabolic genes and antimicrobial resistance genes, with functional variants of the erm(C) gene persisting at high abundance, suggesting these genes confer a fitness advantage to phages and their bacterial hosts.
