This hypothesis paper proposes that dysfunction in ocular and otolaryngological mucin proteins may contribute to myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) symptoms by compromising mucosal barriers, leading to chronic low-grade inflammation. The hypothesis is based on genetic analysis of mucin gene variants and computational modeling, with supporting literature on associated symptoms and immune dysfunction.
