This cross-sectional ethnobotanical study used 120 semi-structured interviews to document wild food plant and mushroom foraging knowledge among Pathans, Kohistanis, and Gujjars in North Pakistan's Hindukush highlands, recording 68 wild food species. The three ethnic groups shared 37% of used plants, with Pathans and Kohistanis showing closer affinity in plant use than either did with Gujjars, whose distinctive practices reflect their mobile pastoral lifestyle and limited knowledge exchange due to endogamic patterns.
