This large prospective cohort study from Japan found that using any weight-loss behavior before pregnancy was associated with a significantly increased risk of postpartum depression (PPD) in women who did not have psychological distress during pregnancy. The association varied by type of weight-loss method and pre-pregnancy BMI category.
